Fuzz Warp is a Big Muff Pi and mashup of the Death By Audio Fuzz War II, and the discontinued Eau Claire Thunder, from the sadly closed Dwarfcraft Devices.
Both of these pedals are based around the classic EHX Big Muff Pi.
I love the sound of the Fuzz War, and also all of the cool, weird, drone and feedback things that the Eau Claire Thunder does (checkout my Primrose Thunder pedal here)
So the Fuzz Warp uses the DBA Fuzz War as a staring point, and adds the Tone Blast / Feedback / Input Trim mods from the Eau Claire Thunder. There are also some changes to the clipping stage with Zener diode, Germanium diode or Off (no clipping) options, and some boring changes to the input buffer section to make everything work correctly.
This opens up a huge range of tones compared to both of the original designs, and with clipping off, and tone blast enabled, this monster is extremely RAW and insanely fucking LOUD.
No responsibility taken if you blow up your amp. It's got a volume knob to control the level and you have been warned !!!
Seriously, the Fuzz War is loud as FUCK, and this is waaaaaay louder.
The FEEDBACK footswitch can be used to create feedback, drones, glitchy sub octave fuzz, weird noises and more.
The FBK TUNE knob can control the pitch of the drones, and the behavior of the feedback loop. If you turn it all the way up, it might glitch out and not let any signal through at all. And, if you turn it all the way down it probably won't do very much either. There are few sweet spots, and it will depend on other settings as to where they are.
The INPUT TRIM knob cut's the signal going into the pedal and is crucial for setting the balance between the instrument input and drone form the pedal, and also for adjusting the time notes take to decay back to the drone. You can also use it to open up the dynamics range and drop the gain.
The TONE BLAST Footswitch takes the filter and tone control out of the signal path and completely bypasses the tone stage. It makes the ouput signal louder and more "raw" sounding.
The rest of the pedal controls work like a Big Muff. Volume, Tone and Fuzz just do what they say, their settings will also effect the feedback produced. For example, if you want the drone to be higher in pitch, adjusting the tone to let more treble through often helps.
If you want a more traditional or "normal" Big Muff, with no feedback loops, tone blast etc, check out the BMP pedal here
