Buzz King is a compact Distortion / Octave pedal inspired by a modified DOD FX33 Buzz Box.
It is named Buzz King in a tribute to *Buzz Osbourne - AKA King Buzzo of the Melvins, as the original Buzz Box was meant to replicate his guitar tone, of a ProCo RAT into a MXR Blue Box.
But it didn't. It sounds nothing like the Melvins tone it was trying to emulate.
- Although he did end up using it on Prick and Stoner Witch.
The circuit is nothing like a RAT or a BlueBox either.
But, luckily... it does it's own thing. And it does it very, very well.
The Buzz Box is highly prized by noise makers because it's an extremely harsh distortion, it self oscillates and makes it's own noise, and it's got a very glitchy, very chunky, very meaty sub octave section.
The Buzz King builds on the DOD FX33 by redesigning the bypass section and completely killing any bleed into your dry signal.
It also has a switch to select one or two sub octaves down, top jacks, and a normal boss style DC jack, instead of the impractical DOD 3.5mm power connector.
But the best thing about the Buzz King is that it's $200 new, not $600 used. Which means you can free up those savings to buy more pedals.
