Not only is the BMP my take on one of the greatest guitar pedals ever, it's also my initials, so it holds a special sentiment to me.
There are soooo many variants of this pedal you're probably asking, does there need to be any more?
TBH the answer is not really, but IDGAF... here it is anyway.
This BMP has two main variants. The first is based on the V8 Black Russian, which has a really harsh and bitey element to the sound. The second variant is based on the Violet Rams Head which sounds smoother and more DOOM.
It has a mod switch in the center to change the filter response, allowing the notch in the mid frequency to be altered. This gives a "bump" to the mids response and a small or larger boost depending on the switch position. It can be subtle in some settings, and in others it will have a significant effect on the voicing and tonestack.
On either side it also has 2x switches to change the clipping diodes. In the up position they have the stock 1N914 silicon diodes. Classic Big Muff Sounds.
Clip 1 has LEDs in the down position (usually). This gives a mighty boost to volume and gain and makes the sound more raw, and less compressed. If you intend to use this pedal for doom - this is the mode for you.
Clip 2 usually has germanium diodes in the down position. This drops the gain, adds a lot of warmth, and gives you a more synthy and over driven tone instead of the classic fuzz we all know and love.
I usually build these pedals with 2N5088 or BC547C transistors. In general, the 5088's are a bit more modern, and stable, and the BC547C is a tiny bit more vintage, with very slightly more sag.
Many variants can be built on this PCB. So if you want a Civil War, Triangle or something else please contact me and I'll work out a quote for you.
